Esports Grid: crossing nationalities with tier-1 organisations
The Grid is our daily 3x3 puzzle. Three nationalities sit on one axis and three organisations on the other, and every cell asks for a professional player who matches both — a Brazilian who played for LOUD, a Dane who played for Astralis, and so on. A new board is generated for Counter-Strike 2, VALORANT and League of Legends every day at 00:00 UTC.
How a board is built
Boards are generated from the same career database that powers Who Am I? and Line-ups, so every answer is backed by a real roster stint recorded in public tournament results. Two rules keep the puzzle fair:
- At least three valid answers per cell. A crossing is only used when we can verify three or more players who satisfy it, so you are never hunting for a single obscure name.
- Tier-1 organisations only. The team axis is restricted to organisations that appeared in world-level events — CS Majors, VALORANT Masters and Champions, MSI and Worlds — or that are on our curated tier-1 list. Regional academy squads and short-lived projects never appear.
Headers show only flags and team logos. Recognising crests is part of the challenge, but hovering (or long-pressing on mobile) reveals the name for accessibility.
Scoring
Guesses are unlimited, but each cell is worth less the more attempts it takes. A player can only be used once per board, so spend your obvious answers where they are hardest to replace.
| Attempt | Points for that cell |
|---|---|
| 1st correct answer in a cell | 60 |
| 2nd | 45 |
| 3rd | 30 |
| 4th | 20 |
| 5th and beyond | 10 |
Every answer is validated on the server against the career records, so a typo-tolerant autocomplete cannot be used to brute-force the board.
Strategy
- Start with the cell where you are most confident to lock in the 60-point tier, then work outwards.
- Think in transfer windows: many stars change region mid-career, which is exactly what makes an unexpected nationality-and-team crossing valid.
- Short stand-in stints count. A one-split loan is still a roster stint in the record.
- If a crossing looks impossible, reconsider older eras — organisations like SK Gaming, Fnatic or SK Telecom T1 have decades of rosters behind them.
Where it fits
The Grid is one of four daily modes, alongside Who Am I?, Line-ups and Bingo. Each game and mode keeps its own streak, so a Grid run does not consume your Who Am I? attempt. Full scoring rules for every mode live on the how to play page.
