G2 Esports: Europe's most persistent contender

G2 have reached more international finals than any other Western League of Legends organisation and won none of the biggest ones, which is both their tragedy and the reason their rosters are so heavily quizzed. They are also active in Counter-Strike and VALORANT, so the logo alone never identifies the game.

The 2019 team is the reference point: MSI champions, Worlds finalists, and the roster that beat both SK Telecom T1 and Royal Never Give Up in the same tournament.

The Perkz and Caps years

Perkz joined in 2015 as a mid laner and, when Caps arrived from Fnatic in 2019, moved to bot lane to keep both on the roster — one of the most consequential role swaps in the game's history. That version of G2 won the domestic league and MSI and then lost the Worlds final to FunPlus Phoenix.

Perkz left in 2021; Caps has anchored every G2 roster since, through several rebuilds around him.

The other games

In Counter-Strike, G2 built a French roster in the 2010s and then a NiKo-led international one that reached the Stockholm final in 2021. In VALORANT, the organisation returned to the Americas league and won Masters Bangkok in 2025 with a roster assembled from North American veterans.

If a G2 line-up round appears, count the clue that identifies the game first: a jungler-shaped name set means League, an in-game leader means Counter-Strike.
