Gen.G: the Samsung inheritance and a VALORANT breakthrough
Gen.G exist because of an acquisition: the organisation bought Samsung's League of Legends team after it won the 2017 world championship, which means their competitive lineage starts with a trophy their own name never appeared on.
They are also the first Korean organisation to win a global VALORANT title, which makes them one of the few teams in our archive with recent honours in two games.

The League of Legends thread
Ruler was the constant through the transition: he won Worlds with Samsung Galaxy in 2017, stayed through the rebrand and the lean years, and later moved to JD Gaming in China before returning. The modern Gen.G roster is built around Chovy, the mid laner with the longest run of domestic dominance and no world title, which is the single most argued-about fact in Korean League of Legends.
The VALORANT title
Masters Shanghai in 2024 was won by a Korean roster — t3xture, Meteor, Karon, Lakia and Munchkin — that had finished mid-table the previous season. It was Pacific's first global title in the game and the result that made Korea a genuine VALORANT region rather than a promising one.
